ABOUT US
HAKANTO CONTEMPORARY

Founded in 2020 by Joël Andrianomearisoa and Hasnaine Yavarhoussen, Hakanto Contemporary is a non-profit contemporary art centre based in Antananarivo. Fully funded by the Fonds Yavarhoussen, it supports Malagasy artists in developing their projects and expanding their visibility both locally and internationally.
The centre curates exhibitions, conversations, publications, and educational initiatives with a strong curatorial ambition.

More than just a gallery, Hakanto Contemporary is a space for creation and experimentation — conceived for and with the artists.

A proudly disruptive force on the cultural landscape, the centre challenges conventions, raises questions, shifts boundaries, and asserts the urgency of contemporary creation in Madagascar.

An independent, free, and inclusive space, Hakanto Contemporary stands out with its clear artistic direction and is recognised as a trailblazer of Malagasy contemporary art and a key voice in the African creative sphere.

Hakanto Contemporary is a project of Joël Andrianomearisoa and Hasnaine Yavarhoussen supported by the Fonds Yavarhoussen
